• Gather the literature in your school: admissions brochures, descriptions of Judaica curricula, website and try to distill the following:
What are the “big ideas” the school espouses with regard to teaching Torah? In other words: what kind of relationship does the school purport to want the children to develop with the text? What skills and knowledge does the school want the children to come away with in regard to Torah?

Assignment for December 17:Seek out bulletin boards in two or three classrooms and in the hallways relating to Torah and Torah study. Write a 1-2 page response to the following questions:
  1. What is the relationship between what you read in the school’s literature or website and what you saw in the classroom/hallways? What kind of alignment did you find or not find between the two?
  2. What do you think accounts for this alignment or lack thereof?
